Description

GORON is a facebook-based group that was created in 2011 by Irob individuals from around the world who would like and are committed to work towards the advancement of their Irob community and home country, Ethiopia.


OUR MISSION:


Our mission is networking Irobs who are scattered all over the world and home country, Ethiopia, and provide them with a platform to discuss and share their knowledge about the contemporary social, economic,and cultural problems as well as other conditions that affect Irobs and their native land and serving as one more medium for Irobs to come together and work in unison to solve these problems.
OUTSTANDING MAJOR ISSUES AND COURSE OF ACTION:


1 ABDUCTEES:

1.1 Advocate for the release of Irob Abducts who were seized from their homes by Eritrean regime during the invasion of our territory from May 1998 to present.
1.2 Pressure Ethiopian Government to publicize the fate of these citizens and work towards their release which the government did not do for the last 12 years.
1.3 Advocate for these voiceless abducts and families to the International Community so that they put pressure on the Eritrean regime to release our fathers, mother, brother and sisters their whereabouts unknown to this date.

2 BOUNDARY:

2.1 Advocate for the respect of our sovereignty and defend our territories from being ceded to Eritrea based on Eritrean Ethiopian Boundary Commission’s (EEBC) decision of The Hague which is NOT acceptable by Irobs.
2.2 Calling on Ethiopian Government to declare the infamous Algiers Agreement with the Eritrean regime, which happens to be the basis for EEBC decision, NULL and VOID.

3 EDUCATION

3.1 Identifying the root causes of shocking education quality in Irob and unacceptable performance of the students and come up with the possible solutions to the status quo.
3.2 Supporting various initiatives by Irobs that are making efforts to help the students do better in their education as well as exploring additional ways the education of our youth can be improved and supported.

4 YOUTH MIGRATION:

4.1 Advocate for the end of Irob youth smuggling to various countries, mainly to Israel and Arab countries.
4.2 Making awareness campaign regarding what awaits our youth on the way and in those destination countries.
4.3 Appeal to concerned authorities to bring the smugglers to justice.
4.4 Appeal to the government authorities and non-governmental institutions to help create opportunities for the youth to help reduce this unfortunate migration and their suffering on the hands of the cruel human traffickers.
4.5 Appeal to governments and humanitarian organizations make efforts to free those in the hands of human traffickers and detentions in various countries.

5 UNIFYING IROBS

5.1 Fostering the unity of Irobs to solve their problems in unison. The unity of Irobs that had been the hallmark of their identity since time memorial and continued to be the case for generations BUT has been challenged over the years.
5.2 Emphasize to fellow Irobs that our unity is NOT only important to be heard and for solving our prevailing problems BUT ALSO for our very existence.

6 CULTURE AND LANGUAGE:

6.1 Work towards the preservation and development of our culture and language. Support various initiatives by Irobs to preserve and advance our culture and language.
6.2 Underscoring the fact that preserving and developing one’s culture and language is NOT ONLY important on its own BUT ALSO is the hallmark of our identity as Irobs.

7 WORKING WITH IROB-FOCUSED MEDIA:

7.1 Over the years Irob groups and individuals have been working to create and run Irob focused internet mediums such as websites to champion the causes of Irobs and their native land:www.irrob.org and www.irobmablo.org are some of these initiatives. We appreciate their efforts and encourage them to do even better.
7.2 Working with these groups and individuals and coordinating our efforts is one of our outstanding issues we would like to work on as long as the above mentioned websites and others pursue the interests of Irobs and their native land.

8 BEING ACTION-ORIENTED IN OUR EFFORTS:

8.1 Discussing something is one thing and doing practical contributions is another thing. Therefore, the GORON group would like and chooses to do tangible practical contributions for the advancement of our Irob community by defining the problems, choosing the course of action to solve those problems and practically implementing those actions.
8.2 GORON encourages other Irob Groups and individuals to be action-oriented too as much as possible.
