Tragic News of Accident in Erob Woreda (Tigray, Ethiopia)

No automatic alt text available.IRROB.org expresses its deepest condolences to the families and relatives, as well as to the entire inhabitants of the woreda and the whole Irob people everywhere, who in this week once again lost their loved ones in such a tragic transportation disaster that could have been probably avoided by improving in the woreda a better paved road systems! It’s very sad to hear that the Irob people repeatedly are perishing in a dusty road infrastructures while the Federal and Regional Sate of Tigray governments continuously ignore the plight of the woreda’s residents for safer and improved roads that had been causing the death of many people for many years.

Even though Erob (Irob) Woreda is probably the poorest woreda in the entire country, sadly it is NOT getting needed attention from proper higher governmental authorities of the country… As Irob descendants, we strongly believe that the Irob people – as a minority nationality or ethnic group in the country – should have some economically equitable and fair shares in the Country’s Economy and national wealth and the rights and justices as many other Ethnic Nationalities in Ethiopia enjoy – which, in our opinion, other woredas are apparently doing much better than the Erob Woreda in certain economic and developmental areas.

The dusty roads to and in Erob/Irob are so dangerous that take you winding downs and ups in mountains, hills, and valleys raising clouds of dusts that cause zero visibility to the drivers and vulnerability to traffic accidents, as well as repeated heavy losses on human lives and the transportation vehicles!

IRROB.org would like to take this sad occurrence as an opportunity to earnestly appeal to the Federal Government of Ethiopia and to the Regional State of Tigray to expeditiously consider laying asphalt, at least, on the main route from Adigrat to Alitena or from Zelambessa to Alitena in order to reduce recurring fatal accidents of passengers and heavy losses of properties on the transportation-vehicle-owners!
